About Us

The Sport and Recreation Law Association (Association) aims to further the study and dissemination of information regarding legal aspects of sport and recreation.

The Association serves academicians and practitioners in private and public sport and recreation settings. Members have diverse educational and experiential backgrounds representing a variety of occupations and interests. They are leaders, teachers or students at institutions of higher education (sport and recreation management programs, law schools, business schools) who practice law, operate risk management firms, or serve in other related fields.

The SRLA Conference is an annual event that provides quality peer-reviewed scholarship in the area of sport and recreation law; scholarship is dispersed through 25-minute presentations, 75-minute symposium sessions, and poster sessions.  Conference attendees have the opportunity to interact with scholars and practitioners from across the country, engage in social activities, and network with industry professionals.

SRLA currently has over 100 professional and industry members, as well as student members from programs across the country.

  • On average, over 100 members attend the conference each year
  • 85% of SRLA attendees are sport management and/or sport law professors at the undergraduate and graduate level
  • 10% of SRLA attendees are graduate students in sport management PhD programs or law schools
  • 5% of SRLA attendees aresport industry professionals or practicing attorneys

      willing to serve expert witnesses; members are eligible to be included on this
      list. The Expert Witness List gives members an opportunity to receive national
